Product Description

HDPE Electrofusion Tapping Saddle is used to tap into a HDPE pipeline. Manufactured and tested in world-class facilities, this range of electrofusion tapping saddles offers a solution for bypass, purging and off-takes.

Also known as an electrofusion tapping tee or EF tapping saddle, it has implanted metal coils placed around the inner surface. The branch outlet is a long spigot type, requiring a coupler to join it to another pipe or fittings. The tapping tee is assembled with an internal metal cutter. After welding, installers use a special tool to screw down the cutter to tap the hole, then screw it up to seal the access, allowing flow into the branch outlet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the electrofusion welding process?
It involves preparing the pipe (cleaning and removing gaps), marking and rubbing the surface, reinforcing the connection, applying electrical current via an electrofusion machine, and finally cooling.
HDPE butt fusion vs electrofusion fittings, which one is better?
Both have benefits. Butt fusion is generally lower in material cost, while electrofusion offers lower installation labor costs and more reliable joints in tight spaces or repair scenarios.
Can HDPE electrofusion coupler be used for PPR pipe?
No, HDPE electrofusion couplers are designed and manufactured exclusively for welding HDPE pipelines and are not suitable for PPR pipes.
Is there a barcode on the electrofusion fittings?
Yes, all fittings include a barcode. On-site workers can scan this with the electrofusion machine to input all welding parameters automatically.
Is scraping necessary before Electrofusion?
Yes, it is essential. The installer must scrape the oxidation layer (approx. 0.3mm depth) on the pipe edge to ensure a successful molecular bond during fusion.
What are the typical reasons for electrofusion welding failure?
The majority of failures are caused by incorrect installation, specifically poor joint preparation, contamination during the process, or misalignment of the pipe within the fitting.
